So this is interesting. It seems Dave Franco's directorial debut – the thriller THE RENTAL – is at the top of the box-office! And last weekend it made a whopping…$420,871? Which doesn't seem like a lot, until you consider that most theaters are closed due to Covid, which means this is all coming from drive-in theaters, and even then only about 250 of them in total. Which is still pretty impressive, regardless!
Anyway, here's the official synopsis of the film, which our own The Iceman gave a solid 7/10!:
Two couples looking to celebrate their seed money from a new business venture, embark on a weekend getaway to a seemingly perfect house they’ve booked online. But what begins as a festive weekend for the four close friends turns into something far more sinister as secrets they’ve kept from each other are exposed and paranoia grows that they may not be alone.
Meanwhile, THE RENTAL – written/directed by Dave Frano, co-written Joe Swanberg, and starring Dan Stevens, Alison Brie, Sheila Vand and Jeremy Allen – is out in Drive-Ins and Digital/VOD right now!
