After starring opposite Chloe Coleman in the cringe-worthy trailer for Peter Segal's family-friendly romp MY SPY, it's been announced that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and BLADE RUNNER 2049 actor Dave Bautista will star in ARMY OF THE DEAD, the Zack Snyder-directed zombie flick destined for Netflix. The upcoming project that boasts a script from Snyder and Shay Hatten is said to be a zombie heist film that Snyder will create using only a $70 million dollar budget.
According to Deadline, who exclusively broke the story of Bautista's casting Friday evening, ARMY OF THE DEAD will be framed as an "adventure set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted." Meanwhile, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Ori Marmur and Andrew Norma overseeing for Netflix.
Of course, Bautista's next theatrical outing will be as Drax for Marvel's AVENGERS: ENDGAME. In the upcoming follow-up to AVENGER'S: INFINITY WAR, Drax must "un-snap" himself if he hopes to get his revenge against Thaos, the Mad Titan that wiped out half the MCU with one malicious gesture. The upcoming finale stars damn near every Marvel character under the sun, and probably some new ones as well.
Also, I joke about MY SPY, but honestly, participating in a family film is something of an action star tradition, is it not? Schwarzenegger, Lundgren, Diesel, Johnson and Chan all made one, so why not Bautista as well, right? You get yours, Big Man.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME will arrive to make box office history on April 26th.
