Dave Bautista says he won’t play Bane in new DC Universe as James Gunn is looking for younger actors

As James Gunn sticks to his…*ahem* guns, with his new vision of the DC Universe, younger talent will fill roles of notable characters.

This May may mark the conclusion to the Guardians of the Galaxy saga with James Gunn’s last Marvel effort before his newly appointed position at DC Films took place. However, Gunn will still be creatively involved with superhero movies at Warner Bros. As he maintains working relationships with his favorite actors, Dave Bautista is one who has remained loyal to his director. But the wrestler-turned-actor has recently told IndieWire that his involvement would not involve a famous Batman villain who dons a wrestling luchador mask — Bane.

Gunn has been the dart board of many DCEU fans as his new position decisions has been vocally unpopular. One of the decisions was to scrap Henry Cavill’s return to the red cape as Gunn would be seeking a new Superman, preferably at a younger age. This prompted Bautista to respond, “You need to start to plan for the next 15 years, and I just don’t think you can do that with me. And I understand that. And, also, I have to say that I appreciate that because I don’t want to play a character that I can’t bring justice to it. I don’t think at this point in my career that I can bring justice to Bane anymore. I just don’t know if I could handle the physical part, and I don’t think I would have the longevity to plan ahead for films. So, I just don’t know if I’d be that guy.”

Bautista continued, “I have had conversations with James about that but I think the direction he’s leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher and I think you need to do that. I think for the DC Universe to be revived, you need to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors.”

There has been a lot of confusion as to what the universe will include going forward. Both Zachary Levi and Jason Momoa have assured fans that they have not been replaced. Also, there will be separate Batman universes with the standalone franchises of The Batman and Joker films. However, characters like Superman are getting a reboot and sequels to Black Adam and Wonder Woman have been scrapped.
