Even though it’s been about seven and half years or so, I’m gonna go ahead and label the amount of time we’ve been waiting for the AVATAR sequels as “forever”. That way I can say we’ve literally been waiting forever for the AVATAR sequels from James Cameron. The director has been pushing the release date back, and further back for years, but we finally – FINALLY – have an official slate of release dates for the flicks
Fox put out a press release laying out the schedule for all four sequels beginning with AVATAR 2 on December 18, 2020, and followed by AVATAR 3 on December 17, 2021. Then, there’s a three-year break with AVATAR 4 following up on December 20, 2024, and concluding with AVATAR 5 on December 19, 2025.
Fans were a little disheartened when Cameron last talked about the release dates, saying how the 2018 release wasn’t gonna happen. Looks like the man was right as we have to wait another three and half years for the next movie (a.k.a. “half forever”).
I’m sure there’s a lot of scoffing going on, but this slew of dates seems pretty set in stone. There’s enough time in between now and the rolling out of these movies to really get them just right, with another big gap in the middle to give Cameron and crew some more time to work so they don’t have to rush and cram them out every year. Cameron is a perfectionist, and with this timeline he has more than enough wiggle room to fit his needs. Lord knows if they're gonna make us wait forever we better get the best possible product. Forever is a long time to wait for “meh.”
