A couple months ago, we heard that Dashcam – the new found footage horror film from Host (watch it HERE) director Rob Savage – would be getting a theatrical release sometime this summer. Now it has been confirmed that Dashcam will be reaching theatres and VOD on June 3rd, and to start building the hype a teaser trailer has been released online. You can watch it in the embed above. But be warned that this lives up to the “teaser” description; don’t expect to see much going on during its 50-some seconds.
While Host was shot over Zoom, Dashcam was shot entirely with iPhones.
Written by Savage and his Host collaborators Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd, Dashcam follows
an abrasive musician’s night, via her livestream, as it takes a dangerous turn when she agrees to help transport a frail elderly woman out of town.
Annie Hardy (The Icarus Line Must Die) stars as that abrasive musician. Amar Chadha-Patel (Disney+’s Willow) and newcomer Angela Enahoro are also in the cast.
Savage produced Dashcam with Jason Blum and Douglas Cox. His co-writers Hurley and Shepherd served as executive producers with Ryan Turek. Blum has described the film as “a ride and not for the faint of heart – scary, intense, kinetic, like an unpredictable road trip with your most maddening friend.”
Any time something is described as being found footage, my interest in the project instantly plummets. Despite the fact that I enjoyed Host more than I expected to, my enthusiasm for Dashcam is still very low… but since I enjoyed Host, I will be giving Dashcam a chance to win me over as well.
