I have just been reminded that I really need to get around to watching Kiah Roache-Turner's 2014 zombie film Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (which can be viewed HERE), because the promotional artwork has always looked interesting to me. And now, Roache-Turner has signed on to direct a new movie that sounds like it's right up my alley. That movie is Dark West, a vampire revenge thriller that's said to be "in the vein of the classic '80s horror films The Hitcher (watch it HERE) and Near Dark (watch that one HERE)", both of which were written by one of our favorite writers/filmmakers here at Arrow in the Head, Eric Red.
The original screenplay for Dark West has been written by author Richard Kadrey, best known for his Sandman Slim book series. In addition to directing the film, Roache-Turner will also be writing a new draft of the script. The story is set
on the highways of Texas and follows two car thieves who accidentally T-bone a pair of vampires in the middle of the night.
Roache-Turner is aiming to shoot Dark West in his native Australia rather than Texas. Chris Goldberg's Winterlight Pictures will be producing the film with See Pictures. Derek Warriner serves as executive producer.
While Roache-Turner moves forward with the film, Kadrey is working on turning the story of Dark West into a graphic novel.
I'm a big fan of The Hitcher and Near Dark, so I hope Roache-Turner's Dark West will turn out to be something cool.
