Daredevil fans have been hitting Twitter in force since yesterday and it's their hope that their urgency will allow the former Netflix series to be resurrected by the MCU.
The Netflix movie and TV rights to Daredevil expired yesterday and that means the title character can finally be used in any number of ways by Marvel Studios. The series, which starred Charlie Cox as the titular hero, was canceled on November 29, 2018, and under the terms of the Marvel-Netflix deal, Marvel Studios wasn't able to use the character in any of their movies or TV shows until a two-year hold following the cancellation expired. That expiration took place yesterday and fans are working harder than ever to get Marvel Studios to take notice and bring the Man Without Fear back to life.
Fans are hoping that their push won't allow Netflix to magically come up with a fourth season and for the series' star, Charlie Cox, to be brought back as the character for any future MCU Daredevil projects. If the former were to happen, it would keep Daredevil in the Netflix fold, but I honestly think a fourth season coming out of the blue on the streamer really isn't likely. Cox has been asked countless times about returning or the show itself returning and while he would love that to happen, he hasn't heard of anything being in the works.
If you want to help the cause, the campaign is being run under the hashtag #SaveDaredevil and they are asking fans to list the reasons why Daredevil should revert to Marvel Studios. You can check out the full Twitter thread for the campaign below:
Daredevil ran for three seasons on Netflix and the series earned raves from critics and fans alike. Cox stars as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, a blind lawyer-by-day who fights crime as a masked vigilante by night. The series also starred Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Bob Gunton, Elodie Yung, and Jon Bernthal. The success of the series led to shared spin-offs that included Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. These shows were also canceled by Netflix due to the fact that they no longer wanted to pay a licensing fee to Marvel to produce more episodes. These shows can also be reverted back to Marvel Studios after a certain amount of time so don't be surprised if you see more of these campaigns popping up in the future.
