Daphne and Velma to star in their own solo live-action feature film!

SCOOBY-DOO is a phenomenon that I'll never be able to wrap my head around. Every episode of the main series was the same (some old guy wanted to scare people away for some nefarious scheme, usually involving cheap masks and abandoned property, and was usually the only other character introduced in the show). Hell, even when they tried to spruce it up with guest-stars like the Mamas and the Papas or Batman and Robin, it was still the same stale shit. Even Vincent Price couldn't make the concept interesting.

However, I'll admit, I had a bit of a crush on the two female leads Velma and Daphne when I was little kid watching Cartoon Network late at night instead of sleeping. And, hey, Velma was at least portrayed as being the smartest and most capable detective of the group, which was somewhat progressive for the time. However, I'm not sure they can carry a whole movie by themselves…though that's apparently what they're doing as Warner Bros. is developing a new live-action film based on the two amateur sleuths – apparently sans Scoob and the gang!

Here's the official synopsis, according to Variety:

“Daphne and Velma” tells the story of Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley before they team up with Scooby and the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang. The mystery-solving teens are best friends but have only met online — until Daphne transfers to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, stocked with high-tech gadgetry by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. While their peers vie for a coveted internship at Bloom’s company, Daphne and Velma try to uncover the reason why the school’s brightest students are disappearing — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state.

So what do you Schmoes think? Do you feel that the two girl sleuths can carry a film on their own, sans Scooby?
