I know, although the year is full of enormous films such as AVENGERS: ENDGAME, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, and STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, the one film you really care about is DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD, the upcoming live-action Dora the Explorer movie.
Based on the long-running animated children's series, DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD stars Isabela Moner (TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT) as the titular explorer who sets off to save her parents, played by Eva Longoria and Michael Pena, and solve an impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold along the way. One of Dora's best friends is Boots, a lovable monkey who accompanies Dora on her adventures, and no one does lovable quite like Danny Trejo (MACHETE). At least, they'd better hope so as it's been revealed that the actor will be lending his voice to Boots the Monkey. Not exactly who I imagined as the voice of Boots, but a little Trejo is never a bad thing. The first trailer for DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD will debut this Saturday at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards. Dora the Explorer was a little (a lot) past my time, so I'm not exactly the target audience, but I can imagine that many of you have kids who you'll be accompanying to the film. I wish you the best of luck.
The official synopsis for DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD:
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD will hit theaters on August 2, 2019.
