Station Eleven’s Danielle Deadwyler to star in J.J. Abrams’ HBO series Demimonde

Danielle Deadwyler, J.J. Abrams, Demimonde, HBO series

It’s been over four years since HBO gave a straight-to-series order to Demimonde, the latest sci-fi drama from J.J. Abrams. The series is finally moving forward as Danielle Deadwyler has been tapped to star in Demimonde.

Demimonde will follow “what happens after a woman is torn away from her husband and daughter in a brutal scientific accident as she is forced to unravel a conspiracy to reunite with her family that has been lost to a dark, distant other world.” Danielle Deadwyler will play Olive Reed, the woman at the center of Demimonde. J.J. Abrams created the series, his first in over a decade, and will serve as writer, director, and executive producer. Kira Snyder, Rand Ravich, and Far Shariat will serve as the co-showrunners of the series. Demimonde is still early in preproduction as development has slowed down while Abrams finished his work on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. After creating Felicity, Alias, Lost, Fringe, and the short-lived Undercovers more or less back-to-back, J.J. Abrams took a break from the world of television, but I’m grateful he’s back and I’m excited to see what he has locked in his mystery box for Demimonde.

Danielle Deadwyler is best known for her roles in Watchmen, Atlanta, and The Harder They Fall, and most recently played a recurring yet pivotal role in Station Eleven. Based on the novel by Emily St. John Mandel, Station Eleven takes place twenty years after a pandemic resulted in the collapse of civilization as a group of survivors make their living as travelling performers, but they encounter a violent cult led by a man whose past is unknowingly linked to a member of the troupe.
