Lionsgate has reportedly begun casting for its big screen POWER RANGERS reboot, and insiders tell Variety Daniel Zovatto (IT FOLLOWS), Ross Butler (HACKER'S GAME, Chasing Life) and rapper Brian “Sene” Marc are testing for the role of Zack (the Black Ranger) and that KJ Apa (Shortland Street), Austin Butler (Arrow, The Carrie Diaries) and Mitchell Hope (Descendants) are testing for Red Ranger Jason.
The site is also reporting that THE MARTIAN's Naomi Scott and newcomer Stephanie Scott are being eyed to play Kimberley aka Pink Ranger, and that Lionsgate "will probably look for a big name to play the antagonist for the films, though no offers have been made for that part." In addition, The Wrap's Jeff Sneider is claiming that AnnaSophia Robb (CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, THE WAY, WAY BACK) is also in the mix for the Pink Ranger role.
PROJECT ALMANAC's Dean Israelite is set to direct the reboot from a script by THOR and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Who would you like to see play the film's villain?
There's no word on when POWER RANGERS might start production, but it is expected to hit theaters on January 13, 2017.
