Daniel Radcliffe will never close the door on returning to Harry Potter

This summer saw the release of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", a two-part stage play which continued the adventures of Harry Potter nineteen years after HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2, and rumours soon began swirling that Warner Bros. were looking at adapting it into a feature film. THR caught up with Daniel Radcliffe at the Deauville Film Festival and asked him whether he'd be open to returned to the role once again.

I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do, but I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it. At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years' time I would still feel strange about going back to it.

Although they were able to age Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint with the use of makeup and visual effects for the DEATHLY HALLOWS epilogue, I can't imagine that Warner Bros. would be willing to do that throughout an entire film; I also can't imagine that they would be willing to wait a decade before giving "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" the big-screen treatment. Although Radcliffe is fine with letting someone else take over the role (he suggests Jamie Parker, who plays Harry Potter in the stage-play, take it on) he hopes that if Warner Bros. does move forward with the project, that's it's more of a FORCE AWAKENS and less of a PHANTOM MENACE.

There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched. If we went back to Potter, there’s a chance we’d make what Star Wars: The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, but there’s also the chance that we’d make Phantom Menace, so I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.

With FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM arriving on November 18, 2016 and several more films in the spin-off series to follow, I kind of hope that Warner Bros. leaves "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" alone, at least for now.
