Daniel Radcliffe puts an end to Wolverine rumors saying he wouldn’t want to be ‘locked into something’

Hugh Jackman may be suiting up to play the X-Men favorite one last time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Deadpool 3, but fans have been rampantly throwing around names for the future MCU incarnation of Wolverine. One name that’s been pretty popular is that of former Harry Potter franchise star Daniel Radcliffe. But don’t hold your breath waiting for Radcliffe’s acceptance of the role.

The actor is currently doing promotion for his upcoming musical biopic parody, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. IndieWire reports on the star’s reaction to fan rumors that he will be dawning the claws. Radcliffe explains,

It’s purely a press tour rumor. I say something, and then occasionally, I get bored of answering that way, so I say something different, and that sets it off again. I should just never open my mouth. I just don’t ever want to get locked into something that I am not sure I will be able to love the same amount the whole time. This is something that comes up every so often, I think, because in the comics, Wolverine is short, so every so often, they’re like, ‘Who’s a short actor?’ There’s never been any actual truth to it. Every so often, I get bored of answering the questions sensibly, so I just make a joke like I did the other day, and that sort of has reignited the rumors of it, but there’s nothing going on.”

After starring in a total of eight Harry Potter films, the former child star has been comfortable enough to pick and choose his projects. Since then, he’s become quite the indie darling with films like Swiss Army Man and Horns while doing the occasional studio film like Now You See Me 2 and The Lost City. Radcliffe has explored a wide range of films and roles, and an actor who signs on to be a popular Marvel character usually needs to commit to a multi-year, multi-film deal where they reprise the role time and time again.
