Between her scene-stealing work in BLACK PANTHER and THE WALKING DEAD finishing up its eighth season, Danai Gurira is having a pretty stellar year. As well, she was able to reprise her PANTHER role (as Okoye) for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, and WALKING DEAD season nine arrives in a few months. Things have now gotten even better as she is circling a role in yet another entry of a major movie series – GODZILLA VS. KONG.
Deadline is reporting that the actress is in early talks for the role in the massive MonsterVerse movie from Warner Bros., but details on the part are scarce. The Hollywood Reporter reports that details on her character for KONG are being kept close to the chest but that she would be in a leading role. She would join the current cast that includes Julian Dennison, Mille Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, and more. The film is set for May 22, 2020, with Adam Wingard (THE GUEST, YOU’RE NEXT) directing.

According to Deadline sources are also saying she is being offered a role in STAR TREK 4 from director S.J. Clarkson, but there are even fewer details on that role. Should this be true she would be joining the likes of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and more in a movie that would find James Kirk (Pine) encountering his father (played by a returning Chris Hemsworth), somehow.
Gurira has been kicking ass for a long while now so I'm glad she's finally getting some major movie work. If being on one the biggest shows ever wasn't enough she's now in two of the biggest movies ever, so congrats to her. GODZILLA VS. KONG is yet another major property, as is STAR TREK, so it looks like her future is getting brighter and brighter. As long as she still gets to kick ass as Okoye in BLACK PANTHER sequels I'll be happy.
