Dan Stevens has a prominent role in the recent Netflix release EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA, and later this month he'll be seen in the horror-thriller THE RENTAL, which is set to reach VOD, as well as select drive-ins and theatres, on July 24th. His past credits include Downton Abbey, A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES, COLOSSAL, HER SMELL, APOSTLE, Legion, and Disney's 2017 version BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, but when Stevens spoke to Forbes to promote the release of THE RENTAL the only one of his past works that got any attention (aside from a quick mention of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), was the 2014 thriller THE GUEST, which was made on a budget of $5 million and grossed just $2.7 million.
Despite the weak box office, THE GUEST (watch it HERE) instantly became a cult classic, and it's one of the projects that Stevens is most known for. He told Forbes,
It didn't open to massive box office numbers at the time, but it has had a real life beyond that. Now that it's back on Netflix again, it is having a huge revival. That, for me, is a kind of success in and of itself. … Simon Barrett, the writer of THE GUEST, said to me the other day that all 'cult film' means is that it didn't make any money at the time. It's been delightful that it's continued to have this life. Not every film you make is going to have that sort of enduring appeal. For me, in the limited career I've had so far, THE GUEST has had the longest legs. People just this week, for whatever reason, are discovering it and messaging me and saying, 'I can't believe it took me this long to discover this film. It's great.' That's really satisfying."
With THE GUEST continuing to gain in popularity, it wouldn't be surprising to see a sequel to the film at some point. Especially since the door was left wide open for one. Steven confirmed,
We've certainly talked about it. I'd love to work with both Adam Wingard, the director, and Simon again. Adam's pretty busy with giant apes and monsters at the moment with GODZILLA VS. KONG. Simon and I have talked about many things. A sequel to THE GUEST has come up. I don't know quite what form that would take, and I think we are a way off from it happening, but it's always a possibility."
In case you're not familiar with THE GUEST, it told the following story:
After the Peterson family welcomes a young soldier into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.
Stevens' co-stars include Maika Monroe, Brendan Meyer, Sheila Kelley, Leland Orser, Lance Reddick, Joel David Moore, and Ethan Embry.
THE GUEST has been described as "THE TERMINATOR meets HALLOWEEN", and since those films have received so many sequels it seems only fair that THE GUEST should get at least one.
