In his directorial debut, Dan Gilroy crafted a sleek, disturbing thriller which featured Jake Gyllenhaal as the remarkably creepy, yet charming, Lou Bloom. NIGHTCRAWLER was one hell of a first outing and I absolutely loved it, which makes the news that Gilroy will be staging a little NIGHCRAWLER reunion all the more exciting.
After shopping around a project which would see Gilroy reunite with NIGHTCRAWLER stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo, Deadline reports that Netflix has snagged the as-yet-untitled drama film after a heated bidding war. Not much is known about the film just yet, but it's said to take place in the art world. Much like many of Netflix's recent acquisitions, Dan Gilroy's film will get a small qualifying theatrical release when it is released on the streaming service.
Dan Gilroy's next project, a legal thriller by the name of ROMAN ISRAEL, ESQ., recently wrapped principal photography but does not currently have a release date. Sony is said to be eyeing a fourth-quarter release which will place it in a prime slot for awards consideration. Starring Denzel Washington and Colin Farrell, ROMAN ISRAEL, ESQ. follows a Los Angeles attorney (Washington) who is offered a job at a prestigious law firm after the death of his longtime partner and takes on a case which has life-altering repercussions.
