Like the new GHOSTBUSTERS movie or don't… It doesn't matter to me at this point. However, what we should all be able to agree on is that the behavior of far too many surrounding this movie has been completely unacceptable. It is beyond any realm of reasonable response for something you might not want to see. After all, no one is flipping their shit like this, because a remake of THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is rolling around. And, as a result, we have seen misogynistic attacks against the women involved in Paul Feig's film (yeah, I know… it's about the fact that they touched GHOSTBUSTERS in the first place for you… fine… but that doesn't mean there aren't others who are driven by this other personal issue) and, as of late, racist attacks against the likes of Leslie Jones to the point that she has now withdrawn from Twitter after being hit with so much vile hatred.
Enough is enough. Silence in the face of this sort of behavior is equal to condoning it, and we should speak out against those who insist on fighting a fight that no one else is fighting with these types of tactics. Dan Aykroyd is going to take the lead.
In a new interview with ET Canada, one of the co-creators of GHOSTBUSTERS and one of its original members as Ray Stantz is taking off the gloves and hitting hard. First, in defense of Jones:
"Well first of all she’s a great writer, great comedian and comes from a real urban background where she had a lot of hardship and she’s channelling that into a great achievement and a great career."
And then on offense against those now referred to as the GhostBros:
“These people, first of all, they’re insignificant gnats. They’re losers, they have no lives of their own, they can probably barely pay for the wifi they’re using. I would say you’re looking at obese white men between 50 and 60 who are active Klan members, or members of the Aryan Nation, and there are millions of them."
Ray Stantz doesn't want you around anymore. Ray Stantz wants you as far away from the Ghostbusters as humanly possible. One of the original Ghostbusters has had enough of your shit in trying to invoke the Ghostbusters for some ridiculous cause. That should hurt.
And really what it comes down to is people taking something way too seriously that was always meant to be fun and entertaining. Basically, if you feel the need to call upon racist or sexist language in order to combat a movie that doesn't do it for you, then you are every bit what Dan Aykroyd says you are. How's it feel wearing that badge?
