Dan Aykroyd says production will begin on Ghostbusters 3 in spring of 2015

Earlier this year, Ivan Reitman stepped down from the director’s chair of GHOSTBUSTERS 3 in the aftermath of Harold Ramis‘ death. He was adamant that there would be a third film, and that he would be supervising as producer instead. There hasn’t been any news of a replacement director or any production delay since, although it seems the team behind the sequel hasn’t been slowed down in the slightest. Earlier this week Dan Aykroyd was on the Today show discussing the 30th anniversary of GHOSTBUSTERS, when the topic of GHOSTBUSTERS 3 came up.

Here’s what Aykroyd had to say:

It looks like we’ll be in production, pre-production in the spring now, from what I’m hearing. It should be good.

I think everyone is feeling more than a little “iffy” about a third Ghostbusters film, especially with the lack of involvement from Bill Murray and the unfortunate passing of Harold Ramis. The team seems to want to continue so I hope that they have a story that can really live up to the first film. I’m not opposed to a new group of Ghostbusters, but it’s not like they have have Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Jason Segel lined up to take over, ya know? I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will begin production in the Spring of 2015.
