Dakota Johnson and Shia LaBeouf have been running something of a mutual admiration society since working together on last year's THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON, with Johnson saying that LaBeouf "might be the greatest actor of my generation" and him telling Ellen DeGeneres that Johnson was his best on screen kiss because "she's a sweetheart". Now they're going to have the chance to work together again, as Johnson has signed on to join LaBeouf in director Olivia Wilde's DON'T WORRY, DARLING.
Wilde will be working from a screenplay that was originally written by Shane and Carey Van Dyke. Katie Silberman, who co-wrote Wilde's feature directorial debut BOOKSMART, is writing a new draft of the script. Here's all we know about the story:
Set in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950s California desert, DON'T WORRY DARLING is a psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing a disturbing truth underneath.
In the cast with Johnson and LaBeouf are Florence Pugh and Chris Pine. Wilde has also reserved a key supporting role for herself.
Wilde and Silberman are producing DON'T WORRY, DARLING with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment. Catherine Hardwicke serves as executive producer alongside the Van Dykes. Daria Cercek and Celia Khong are overseeing the project for New Line Cinema, and this thriller is a high priority for the company.
