Daisy Ridley doesn’t get the big deal about Rey’s parents in Star Wars

The fan theories and speculation about who Rey's parents are in the new STAR WARS films have been been running rampant since people first laid eyes on THE FORCE AWAKENS. Is Luke her dad? Is she somehow related to Obi-Wan Kenobi? What about being the daughter of Felicity Jones’s Jyn Erso, now that we've gotten a look at ROGUE ONE?

Seriously, if you allow yourself to go deep enough down the rabbit hole as to who has been thrown out there to potentially be revealed as Rey's mom and dad, you could find yourself losing a whole day of your life that's never going to come back.

But there's one person who doesn't get the big deal about Rey's parentage… and that's Rey herself, Daisy Ridley.

Granted, Ridley does have the luxury of having this information already, so it isn't a matter of unlocking some mystery to her, but when talking to MTV backstage at the MTV Movie Awards, she had a hard time grasping how much importance some fans have put on this piece of knowledge.

I think the amazing thing about [THE FORCE AWAKENS] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is.

Hmmm… Ridley does have a point. The fact that these characters have found a home so seamlessly through unique circumstances should really get more play among the fan base, because that's very similar to how serendipitous the meeting of Luke Skywalker, Ben Kenobi, Han Solo, Princess Leia and a few others played out in the original STAR WARS. Luke's parents played a bigger role in crafting his identity and his hero's journey, but that doesn't mean Rey's parents necessarily have to follow suit.

Plus, doesn't putting such great emphasis on who her parents are/were ultimately set up that reveal to be disappointing when it's all said and done unless it turns out to be someone who blows us all away, meeting some of the more creative and well-crafted fan theories? Maybe.

As for any type of link with Felicity Jones' ROGUE ONE character, Ridley is pretty forthcoming that there is no connection there.
