Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich are both open to returning to Star Wars in the future

The Star Wars franchise under the Disney regime has, without a doubt, had its highs and lows with fans and general audiences alike. The star of the sequel trilogy, Daisy Ridley, has said that offers have seldom come her way since taking the role. And what was meant to be a star-making vehicle for Alden Ehrenreich after being the lead in the spin-off prequel, Solo: A Star Wars Story, was met with indifference as the behind-the-scenes drama overshadowed the film and Ehrenreich has been steadily working on more low key projects.

Both are not resentful of the property, though, and are willing to reprise their roles in a galaxy far, far away. CBR is reporting on Ridley’s interest in coming back. “I mean, I’m open to a phone call. I’m looking for employment!” Outside of the initial trilogy, Ridley has also lent her voice to the animated web series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, video games Star Wars: Battlefront II, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Disney Infinity 3.0. Beyond that, Ridley has not been announced to be involved in any future Star Wars projects. However, there are a number of planned films that can offer possibilities of her return as either a main or supporting character. Damon Lindelof and Shawn Levy are both tapped to helm their own movies that are set apart from the Skywalker saga.

Alden Ehrenreich is currently at Sundance promoting his new film, Fair Play, and spoke with IndieWire about being open to return to the franchise himself. “The story that I did, I really got to be Han Solo at the end. That’s kind of the arc of the story, which I thought was well done. That’s the fun part. That’s the guy that’s the most fun to be. I’d be very happy to, but who knows.” Although Ron Howard, who took over for directing duties from Lord and Miller, said fans should not expect a follow-up, many stories that lead up to A New Hope are being told, including the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance with the Andor Disney+ series.

Kathleen Kennedy is currently emphasizing television over feature films at the moment, but as they say, “never say never.”
