Dacre Stoker (above) is the great-grand nephew of Dracula author Bram Stoker, and he’s doing everything he can to cash in on that fact. In 2009, he co-wrote Dracula The Un-Dead, billed as the “official” sequel to the classic tome, with Ian Holt.
Now he’s set to direct DRACULA MEETS STOKER, a 3D documentary about the Stoker, his family and the vampire myth. I have no idea why they’re making a 3D docu, but it’s happening. The project is based on Dacre’s upcoming book of the same name.
The film takes in the true story of Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia – now part of Romania – a 15th century ruler better-known by his Romanian surname, Dracula. The docu will be a kind of “making of” the novel.
The flick is being produced by Spain’s Cin TV but will be in English. Shooting is scheduled for the fall with a $2.7 million budget. A theatrical release is planned for next year, to commemorate the centenary of Stoker’s death. The release will coincide with the book’s publication by Spain’s Iniciativa Mercurio.
