If you didn’t fall in love with Peter Dinklage during his time as Tyrion Lannister for Game of Thrones, prepare to have your heart set alight. The dashing Dinklage is pulling out all the stops in the new trailer for Cyrano, which brings a symphony of emotions, music, and romance to this Wednesday.
Directed by Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Darkest Hour, Atonement), today’s Cyrano trailer reimagines the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle. A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac (Peter Dinklage) dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her — and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.).
Ben Mendelsohn (Captain Marvel, Animal Kingdom) and Bashir Salahuddin (Gringo, Marriage Story) also star.
Cyrano is based on the stage musical adapted and directed by Erica Schmidt, from “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand, with music by Aaron and Bryce Dessner, and lyrics by Matt Berninger & Carin Besser. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Guy Heeley produce with Erica Schmidt, Sarah-Jane Robinson, Sheeraz Shah, Lucas Webb, Matt Berninger, Carin Besser, and Aaron Dessner executive producing.
Dinklage is attached to several films coming down the pipeline and recently wrapped filming for Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger. Dinklage stars as the film’s titular and toxic hero, with Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, Elijah Wood, Sarah Niles, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, and others also set to star. The film reimagines the Tromaville original with Dinklage playing a meek towel boy who transforms into a powerful superhero after getting dumped into a vat of toxic waste. Straight up, this is one of my most anticipated movies of 2022. I used to love the Tromaville brand of schlock horror films and cannot wait to see what this reboot brings to the table. The Toxic Avenger is such a weird concept in general, and I’ll be curious to see if the new film is as eco-conscious as I anticipate.
