Technical issues have caused Sony to pull Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store. The news comes after the PS4 version of the CD Projekt RED game continued to be plagued by various issues and a growing consumer backlash.
The PlayStation site confirmed the removal with the note: "SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice." The PlayStation support Twitter account also verified the news but offered concerned fans a refund by stating by tweeting "[Sony Interactive Entertainment] strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund."
Cyberpunk 2077 was released worldwide on December 10, 2021, and won praise from critics for the PC version of the title, especially for its expansive and immersive play and storyline but this isn't the first time that the game has been the subject of criticism. The game's performance on consoles has elicited a harsh response from fans and the press on social media. Gamers have pointed to how the PS4, Xbox One, and even PS5 versions of the game would routinely crash and gameplay has also been littered with bugs.
The technical difficulties were acknowledged by Polish developer CD Projekt RED and they pledged to release a series of patches for the game to "fix bugs and crashes, and improve the overall experience." Patches have already been released after they made the announcement and they plan to release more in January and February.
