CW’s Wonder Woman series Amazon officially gets the axe

If it wasn’t for Wonder Woman showing up in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, this news would actually be kind of sad. The idea of getting another Wonder Woman series has been shot down as much as the idea of the character getting a solo film.

She still may not be getting either or those but Diana of Themyscira has a supporting role in a major superhero film. That’s better than nothing, right?

The series thought to be on pause would be a prequel, telling the story of Diana rather than beginning with Wonder Woman. Aron Eli Coleite (HEROES) was the last person to touch the script with hopes that the revamp would make for a pleasing pilot. I guess it didn’t.

CW president Mark Pedowitz announced this at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour:

We did not go forward with it.

Pedowitz isn’t opposed to starting again with the character if the right idea comes along but right now it isn’t a reality. Regardless of my take on ARROW, the series is doing well and hopefully FLASH will too. Pedowitz is all about taking small steps on characters and projects like these:

It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow and we’re being very careful with Flash. These are iconic characters so we’re going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit.

Do you think someone will get the formula right for a decent Wonder Woman series?
