It was just yesterday that we shared a story from CHILD’S PLAY creator Don Mancini’s recent interview with the Necronomicast podcast where he mentioned (yet again) his awesome idea for a slasher crossover flick called CHILD’S PLAY ON ELM STREET.
And now we have yet another choice bit of info Mancini dropped on said podcast with today’s news featuring a bit when Mancini talks up how much CHILD’S PLAY main-stay (the original trilogy that is) Andy Barclay will be in this new CULT OF CHUCKY movie. And it turns out he’ll be in the film quite a bit!
Don Mancini on Andy Barclay’s role in CULT OF CHUCKY:
Andy is in this movie quite a bit, actually. I’m constantly musing, ‘What would happen if these characters collided?’… ‘What kind of PTSD would Andy Barclay be dealing with, 30 years later?’ If you imagine that this is really happening in our world, what would Andy Barclay be like? What would his life be like? Stuff like that is very interesting to me. So it’s fun to get to explore that. And put it on the screen.
Nice. I’m excited for more Andy vs Chucky shenanigans for sure.
But how’s about we throw in a bit of Chris Sarandon love while we’re at it? I mean I was at Spooky Empire a few years back and got to see Sarandon and Alex Vincent chumming it up and having a grand old time, so let’s bring them back together on-screen!
SIDE NOTE: Andy’s mom is still in the institution mentioned in CHILD’S PLAY 2, right?
Did I miss anything there? I mean Andy does (seem) to speak to her on the phone at the end of the last movie, CURSE OF CHUCKY, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t her – you know – one phone call a day, or whatever mental patients get.
What do you think of Andy’s return to the horrors of Chucky in CULT OF CHUCKY? Who would you like to see make a return to the franchise? Let us know what you think on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
CULT OF CHUCKY synopsis:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions – an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face – a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
CULT OF CHUCKY is written and directed by Don Mancini and stars Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Grace Lynn Kung, Michael Therriault, Zak Santiago, Summer H. Howell, and, of course, Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky!
CULT OF CHUCKY is set to hit October 3rd.
