Back in October we shared with you the news that Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story would be getting a spinoff called American Crime Story. We only knew that the 10-episode first season would focus on the O.J. Simpson trial as told in the book "The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson" by Jeffrey Toobin and that the first two episodes would be written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLYNT). Now it has been revealed that Cuba Gooding Jr. will play Simpson with Murphy and Sarah Paulson will play the prosecutor on the case, Marcia Clark in American Crime Story: People Vs. O.J.
There series will explore the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court. More significantly, it will display how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.
Murphy’s American Crime Series will focus each season on a different true crime story which made headlines and “captivated the imagination of the public.” So it sounds a lot like American Horror Story in terms of tackling each new season with different subject and characters. Personally this sounds more up my alley as I’ve drifted in and out of AHS as of late; I’d like to see what else Murphy and company can bring to the table. Cuba Gooding Jr. has done some great work over the years in film; I think he has the ability to surprise a lot of people in this role for the first season. It all sounds very interesting and as someone who has followed Murphy’s career (for better or worse) I’m looking forward to where this one goes.
Question: How do you feel watching a show with an ending already built in?
