Crypt TV, the entity which just last month produced Eli Roth's Snapchat murder mystery, is back on the horse (or back on the cartoon ghost, so to speak) once again, teaming with Universal Horror to promote the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan flick THE VISIT.
The three-part live Snapchat series, entitled ONE MINUTE HORROR: THE VISITors, will debut today at 5PM PST. Anybody who wants to follow along can add @CryptTV on Snapchat and tweet their guesses to @CryptTV or @UniversalHorror. If you get it right, you might just win an invitation to an advanced screening of the film!
The plot of the series follows:
Four youths, played by Acacia Brinley, Teala Dunn, Max Isidor and Zane Hijazi, all find themselves venturing in to an old woman’s creepy house as viewers ‘Snap’ suggestions help guide the characters decision making. But Snapchatters be careful, bad advice could lead to untimely ending at the hands of an evil old grandma. All Snapchat posts disappear 24 hours after posting.
This kind of marketing might not gel with older viewers (who, let's face it, are probably not going to be shelling out the big bucks to check out the visit anyway – we've been burned too many times, Shyamalan), but it's an innovative way to get young, tech-savvy audiences involved with their media. Will anybody be following along?
THE VISIT stars Kathryn Hahn, Ed Oxenbould, Erica Lynne Marszalek, Peter McRobbie, Olivia DeJonge, Deanna Dunagan, Benjamin Kanes, Jon Douglas Rainey, Brian Gildea, Shawn Gonzalez, Richard Barlow, Steve Annan, and Michael Mariano. You can see it with your favorite grandparent in theaters on September 11, 2015.
