Cruise does stunts and Jekyll Hydes out in new promos for The Mummy

Mummy Mondays are continuing over on Syfy Wire, with new behind-the-scenes looks at Universal's upcoming reboot of THE MUMMY being posted every week. Since our last MUMMY update, two new videos have been posted. The first is the sort of thing you expect to see accompanying the release of pretty much every Tom Cruise movie – an examination of how dedicated the film's star is to performing his own stunts.

It's the second video that really offers monster movie fans something to chew on. THE MUMMY is intended to serve as the first entry in a new Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe that will see classic characters like the Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein's Monster and his Bride, the Invisible Man, the Wolf Man, and others inhabiting the same world and crossing paths. Not only will this film be re-introducing the titular character, but Dr. Henry Jekyll is also in the mix, representing an organization called Prodigium, which exists to "recognize, examine, contain, and destroy evil".

It has been made pretty clear that Cruise's character and Jekyll, who is played by Russell Crowe, are going to have a hell of a brawl at some point in the film, and the second video below lets us know why: Crowe isn't just Jekyll in this movie, Jekyll's villainous alter ego Eddie Hyde is also present. The video introduces us to Jekyll, gives more information on Prodigium, and then offers a very quick glimpse of Hyde.

Crowe also gave away a bit of Hyde on his Instagram account, posting a video of himself having a blast recording ADR lines for the character. I would consider what Hyde says in Crowe's video to be a SPOILER, so proceed at your own risk.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, THE MUMMY has the following synopsis: 

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Cruise and Crowe's co-stars include Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, Courtney B. Vance, Marwan Kenzari, and Javier Botet.

The film is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017.
