A star-studded trailer for Arbitrage writer-director Nicholas Jarecki’s dramatic thriller Crisis is here. The film stars Oscar-winner Gary Oldman, Evangeline Lilly, and (awkward cough) Armie Hammer, in a feature that tells three stories about when the world of opioids collide: a drug trafficker arranges a multi-cartel Fentanyl smuggling operation between Canada and the U.S., an architect recovering from an OxyContin addiction tracks down the truth behind her son's involvement with narcotics, and a university professor battles unexpected revelations about his research employer, a drug company with deep government influence bringing a new "non-addictive" painkiller to market. Joining the aforementioned trio of actors for the movie are Greg Kinnear, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans, Lily-Rose Depp, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, Duke Nicholson, Veronica Ferres, and Martin Donovan.
Despite this being an unfortunate time to be releasing a film starring Armie Hammer -on account of the whole cannibalism fetish thing – Quiver Distribution will release the film in theaters nationwide on February 26, 2021, with a digital on-demand rollout planned for March 5.
“Nick brought his brilliant script to life in this topical and highly entertaining film,” said Quiver co-presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman. “His look at the international drug war through the prism of profiteers, law enforcement, and all those caught in between is a powerful, thrilling story that we’re proud to bring to audiences.”
“The devastating impact of the opioid epidemic reaches all corners of society,” Jarecki said. “Each day brings a new revelation about what corporations, traffickers, and governments knew about the madness all along. I’m grateful to our outstanding cast whose nuanced performances put a human face on this urgent problem that needs our attention now.”
Much like any other drama featuring a who's who of Hollywood talent, Crisis is looking to qualify for inclusion during awards season. Considering that the Crisis is already being likened to Steven Soderbergh's multi-award winning film Traffic, there's a chance that we could be hearing much more about this intense film in the months to come.
