After fifteen seasons, Criminal Minds came to an end just last year, but according to Variety, a revival of the long-running series is already in the works. Seems a little soon, but folks sure do love their crime procedurals.
The Criminal Minds revival is still in the early stages of development and details are still being finalized, but the project is said to be destined for the Paramount Plus streaming service. Criminal Minds showrunner and executive producer Erica Messer is expected to return for the revival and they're in the process of working out which original cast-members would return. As I never finished the series, I'm not sure where it left the major characters, but if you're a fan of the show, you'll probably have a much better idea than I on who is in the best position to return. The original series followed a team of FBI profilers who worked for the Behavioral Analysis Unit and took down a variety of serial killers and criminals every week and later spawned two spin-off, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. All together, the franchise includes 363 episodes; that's a hell of a lot of serial killers.
Criminal Minds isn't the only crime procedural revival in the works as CBS is also developing a revival of CSI in the form of a limited-series that should see original stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox returning as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle, respectively. It's been said that the series will open a "brand new chapter in Las Vegas, the city where it all began" as the city faces an "existential threat that could bring down the Crime Lab, a brilliant team of forensic investigators must welcome back old friends and deploy new techniques to preserve and serve justice in Sin City." It was reported earlier this week that CBS is very close to officially picking the series up.
