Creed’s Scott Stapp to play Frank Sinatra in Ronald Reagan biopic

There's certainly a lot to unpack in that headline. According to Billboard, Scott Stapp, best known as the front-man of American rock-band Creed, has signed on to play the legendary Frank Sinatra in an upcoming biopic of Ronald Reagan.

Reagan is slated to star Dennis Quaid as the U.S. President and the film will find Stapp playing Sinatra in a scene at Cocoanut Grove when Reagan was the president of the Screen Actors Guild. "Sinatra in performance mode was an exercise in restraint," Stapp said in a statement. "He had this steely, stylish swagger and his sheer presence commanded a room. I was excited to join the cast and blown away by the on-set attention to detail, style, and overall production." Production on the biopic resumed last month after being delayed due to COVID-19 and the film is being directed by Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer), who had his own statement about Scott Stapp's involvement.

We are honored to have Scott in Reagan. Scott’s known for big, high energy performances so it was a thrill to see him shift gears to embody Sinatra’s contained charisma.

In addition to Denis Quaid as Ronald Reagan and Scott Stapp as Frank Sinatra, Reagan will also star Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan, Mena Suvari as Reagan's first wife Jane Wyman, Kevin Dillon as Jack Warner, and Jon Voight as a KGB agent who tracked Reagan for decades. The film is slated to be released sometime in 2021.
