Ladies and gentlemen, MGM Studios and the people at SlashFilm give us a first look at the main event for next year’s bout for the Heavyweight Championship of the World. In the blue corner, the star of the first two Creed movies and making his feature film debut as a director, Michael B. Jordan. And in the red corner, making appearances in Lovecraft Country and the upcoming Devotion, he will also play Kang in the upcoming Ant-Man sequel, Jonathan Majors.
The trailer for the new anticipated entry in the Rocky universe hits tomorrow, but you can get a first peek at our two opponents in the new teaser posters for Creed III. As mentioned earlier, Michael B. Jordan will be making his directorial debut with this movie in addition to reprising the titular role he’s embodied since the 2015 film Creed, which was directed by Black Panther’s Ryan Coogler. Coogler’s brother, Keenan Coogler penned the script along with King Richard writer Zach Baylin.
There are currently no plot details announced for this chapter, although there will be a notable absence of the man who started it all, Sylvester Stallone. In the finale of the second movie, Rocky Balboa, who had been training Adonis Creed, told his protégé that it was “his time now” and had traveled to Canada to presumably settle down with his son. Stallone may make a small appearance, but recently, the actor has been busy with Samaritan and his new TV series, Tulsa King.
Stallone also has been vocal on social media about Irwin Winkler, the producer of the movie, taking the rights to the Rocky property and attempting to spin-off again with the Ivan Drago character, much to his chagrin. Stallone has been aggressively calling for the producer to give him back what’s left of the rights to his creation, as he now has no control over them.
Creed III is set to release in theaters on March 3, 2023.
