Everyone is excited to see what the new and improved Gort will look like in this December’s THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL remake. But instead of waiting and wondering whether the 2008 Gort will be to your liking, you can enter Fox’s “Gort Lives Contest” that allows you to create your own Gort, submit it on the film’s official website and let fans vote to see who the best Gort is. The five winners will have their art along with a bio displayed in Imax theaters during the DTESS theatrical run. Who knows, it could lead to a gig as a conceptual artist for Lucasfilm.
I was so excited, I created my own Gort. Granted I took some poetic license but if I’m gonna create a robot bad-ass, I had to collect some of my favorite robots from years gone by. We’ve got the head of Teddy Ruxpin, the body of that little girl robot from “Small Wonder,” the helmet of Robocop, the arms of Voltron and Mechagodzilla, the wheels of Johnny Five and the insides of the Nintendo R.O.B. (just in case you wanna play “Gyromite”). Look out Central Park!
