Wile E. Coyote is returning to the big-screen and he’ll be bringing the star of Peacemaker along for the ride. John Cena has closed a deal to star in Looney Tunes movie Coyote vs. Acme, an upcoming live-action/CG hybrid from Warner Bros. centered around the endlessly inventive but ultimately doomed coyote.
Coyote vs. Acme will follow “the infamous Looney Tunes prairie woof whose objective is obliterating his nemesis Road Runner. Acme is the fictional company that provides Coyote with his many weapons, all of which invariably fail, leaving him squashed flat or burnt to a crisp.” The movie will tell the story of a down-on-his-luck attorney who takes on Wile E. as a client in his suit against Acme over its defective products, only to discover that his boss at his former law firm is representing Acme, but the growing friendship between Wile E. and his lawyer only fuels their desire to win the case. John Cena will be playing the former boss in the Looney Tunes movie.
Dave Green, director of Earth to Echo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, will helm Coyote vs. Acme with Samy Burch writing the most recent draft of the script based upon Ian Frazier’s Coyote v. Acme article for the New Yorker. Production on the Looney Tunes movie is expected to kick off in New Mexico late next month.
John Cena can currently be seen starring in Peacemaker on HBO Max. With the season finale set to debut tonight, Warner Bros. have already renewed the series for a second season. “Creating Peacemaker has been one of the true highlights of my life, both professionally and otherwise, with John Cena and the incredible creative team around me, as well as our partners at HBO Max,” James Gunn said in a statement. “To have something we all love so much be loved by the audience in turn has been a wonderful experience. I can’t wait for folks to see where Team Peacemaker goes in Season Two!”
