Looks like Loki is going to team up with another supernatural race to go against his brother Thor in THOR: THE DARK WORLD.
Back in June it was reported that The Dark Elves would be the villainous force in the THOR sequel and with the title being announced at Comic Con, all us movie news folks have started to put two and two together.
I Review Too posted the following from a conversation with stuntman James Grogan: Whilst discussing the importance of acting chops in stunt work, Grogan related the experience to a certain Marvel film that he’s currently training for. “The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2,” he explains, “I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”
Elves, you say? Elves don’t sound so evil. I mean, Thor battling Legolas sounds kind of weak. Ah, but these are Dark Elves. You know, like regular elves only….darker?
Well, according to Wikipedia, Malekith the Accursed is the leader of the Dark Elves. In a substantial arc in the Thor comics, Malekith struck an alliance with Loki on behalf of the fire demon Surtur.[1] He took control of a number of Earth humans using special food of the faerie provided by Hela. Malekith then killed Eric Willis, guardian of the Casket of Ancient Winters, after learning its location.[2] As Master of the Hounds, Malekith hunted down Roger Willis, Eric’s son and new guardian of the Casket.
The Casket of Ancient Winters was given to Jarvis for safe-keeping once it was recovered. This could also serve as a possible lead-in for THE AVENGERS 2. I would have loved to see how crazy Mads Mikkelsen would have been in full prosthetics as Malakith, but this does hold with Marvel’s promise to take the Thor stories through the different supernatural realms.
What do you think of the more fantastical turn for THOR: THE DARK WORLD?
THOR: THE DARK WORLD will open in theaters on November 8, 2013.
