Here is a film we haven’t heard about for some time, the TIMECRIMES English language remake. Did you even know there was one in the works? Well there has been and for several years. There is finally a small update on the project coming from SciFiWorld.
Originally it was reported that Steven Zaillian and Agnes Metre would be producing the project, with United Artists having gotten Timothy J. Sexton to write the script. It now seems that Zaillian may well be getting behind the camera for this one. Zaillian might best be known for recently writing the script for the English language THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO remake.
Here is what he told SciFiWorld, excuse the English this had to be translated: “That’s something I could handle, but do not know. We have to find a deal, but is complicated, because I want to do with a really low budget. I do not want a big-budget film for this. I think part of its appeal is to be a low-budget thriller, but it is difficult to do without a major actor, so the trick is finding the right actor not automatically raise the budget to 20 or 30. I’d like to make 10 million dollars. You look and you realize that is one of those rare opportunities where you have four characters, two locations … Why do you need to spend 40 million dollars? This is a gift, a story that you would not want to have otherwise, and happens is also a way to make it economically profitable.”
The original film synopsis: A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.
I haven’t yet had the chance to tap this film but I have heard nothing but great things about it. I’d say Zaillian is more than capable and if anyone was going to handle this might as well be him right?
