Remember when Daniel Craig was first announced as the new James Bond? People were quick tohim as too young, too blond, and not nearly suave enough to play the master spy. Now, ten years later, Daniel Craig has given some us some of Bond's very best work, but, as with his predecessors, there will soon come a time for Craig to leave the role behind.
Daniel Craig had signed on for a total of five Bond films, which would leave one more after the upcoming SPECTRE, but in a recent interview with Esquire, Craig didn't seem entirely thrilled at the prospect of returning:
I don’t know, I really don’t know. Honestly. I’m not trying to be coy. At the moment I can’t even conceive it.
When asked whether he would be open to another one, Craig said "at this moment, no. I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.” Granted, he has just wrapped production on SPECTRE and the thought of launching right back into another huge James Bond production may be a bit much at the moment. I doubt that Craig will leave the franchise following SPECTRE, but I suppose stranger things have happened. Craig also touched on how the monstrous success of SKYFALL intimidated the crew when it came time to develop a follow-up:
I think everyone was just daunted, understandably, like, it’s ‘the biggest British movie of all time’. What does it f**king mean? Where do we go from there? How do you process that? It could have been an albatross around everyone’s necks. It turned out not to be, but there was a massive amount of pressure at the beginning. I feel like we’ve all done our absolute f**king best and that’s a good feeling. Whether that makes a better movie we’ll see.
SPECTRE opens on October 26, 2015 in the United Kingdom and on November 6, 2015 worldwide.
Whose your pick for the next James Bond?
