Screen Media has acquired the North American distribution rights to the UK psychological thriller Cordelia, which Adrian Shergold (Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman) directed from a screenplay he wrote with the film’s star, Antonia Campbell-Hughes (The Other Me). Screen Media is planning to give Cordelia a day-and-date release on VOD and in theatres in at least ten cities in May.
Campbell-Hughes plays Cordelia,
a young woman living in London with her twin sister, who quickly becomes suspicious of her mysteriously alluring neighbor Frank when she meets him for the first time. With her sister out of town for the weekend, the anxious Cordelia is all alone and consumed by her many fears, beginning to unravel and sink back into past traumas, the more Frank tries to charm his way into her life.
Also in the cast are Joel Fry (Yesterday), Michael Gambon (the Harry Potter franchise) and Catherine McCormack (Braveheart), with Johnny Flynn (Emma) as Frank.
Cordelia was produced by Kevin Proctor for StudioPOW, with Andrew Boswell, Sally Hawkins, Georgina Lowe, Tania Reddin, Perry Trevers, and Charlie Wood serving as executive producers.
Campbell-Hughes shared the following statement with Deadline:
Reminiscent of great classic 1960s British psychological Horror with a modern female hand, Cordelia‘s London is preserved, sumptuous and rich. It’s a joy to share this rare gem that we manifested to an international audience of Cinema lovers.”
Shergold added:
Cordelia feels betrayed. She’s a survivor… but that brings guilt… reality begins to blur…. What is real and what is not? Paranoia sets in, but because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean you’re wrong.”
Screen Media said that Cordelia is
the kind of thriller that instantly intrigues thanks to a well-crafted atmosphere of paranoia and stunning lead performances by Antonia Campbell Hughes and Johnny Flynn. We know this one will grip audiences and won’t let go until the credits roll.”
Sounds interesting to me. I look forward to checking Cordelia out when we reach its May release date
