Now, this is f*ckin’ cool. Like many, I’m a fan of JURASSIC PARK, but more than that, the process of filmmaking itself. Stan Winston, one of the true pioneers of special effects, worked with his team to build practical dinosaurs for Steven Spielberg’s film and this featurette on the making of the Velociraptor is fascinating. Everyone loves a man in suit, that goes without saying, but seeing the “evolution” of this extinct creature from foam-to-screen is an amazing thing to witness.
As someone who loves and appreciates practical effects far more than any CGI, this is just a great thing to see. Usually, when I see how much can be accomplished with anything but a computer it gives me hope and justification that we can, will, and should see more work like this on the big screen. Truly great stuff.
Enjoy:
JURASSIC PARK returns to the big screen next year in JURASSIC PARK 3D, opening on April 5, 2013.
