There are two astounding movies hitting theaters this weekend: Richard Linkater’ BOYHOOD and Matt Reeves‘ DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Both films are very different genres and yet still tackle similar themes like the importance of family, growing up, and what it means to be human. In the end, maybe the films aren’t so different after all.
To prove that point, editor Nelson Carvajal mashed the trailers for both films together resulting in the below trailer for APEHOOD. Surprisingly, the growth of Caesar from RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES to DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES mirrors Linklater’s film. Okay, maybe BOYHOOD doesn’t feature talking primates wielding automatic weapons, but you get what I mean.
