When SPACE JAM came out in 1996, I was obsessed with it. I loved basketball and for some reason I liked the idea of the Looney Tunes recruiting Michael Jordan to team against some intergalactic monsters. I even went as far as getting one of the Tune Squad jerseys. I was sad when I finally had to get rid of the jersey because I wore it out. It was one of my most favorite possessions.
When I found out a sequel was coming, I knew that they would never top R. Kelly’s ballad “I Believe I can Fly.” Plus, they’ll never get Bill Murray. Oh, and how do you top Michael Jordan in the 90s? Apparently with LeBron James.
Until a sequel comes, I have something of the hilarious variety to tide you over. Recently, Seth Green, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Danielle Fishel, Ben Schwartz, Paul Scheer, and Brandon Johnson got together to do a live table read of the SPACE JAM script. Funny or Die featured some of the highlights of the evening. Many great moments here especially one stellar Charles Barkley impression from Jordan.
