So, finally saw LOGAN. Now, while I was admittedly underwhelmed (though that might have as much to do with the hype as the film itself), one thing that didn't underwhelm me were the performances, especially Hugh Jackman. Holy shit! The man is an acting machine, on top of being a slicing and dicing one.
While hindsight is obviously 20/20, it is certainly hard to imagine anyone else in the role (and it's going to be huge shoes to fill, as I can't imagine FOX sleeping on the character forever, whether it's a few years from now or more). But there was a time when Jackman was just another struggling actor, going through the rigorous audition process. So here's a behind-the-scenes look of Jackman's initial audition for Wolverine:
I always like seeing early behind-the-scenes videos like this. It's especially interesting hearing lines of dialogue that didn't make it into the final film, such as "I can’t even show you the scars from all the times I’ve tried to kill myself because they just disappear." Man, that's some heavy shit to lay down, Wolverine. I understand why they took it out initially.
Meanwhile, LOGAN is currently slicing it up in theaters right now!
