There's something truly amazing about seeing film footage from the past. We often overlook how young the medium of film/video actually is in the grand scope of things, as we weren't able to capture moving images until the late 1800's, let alone the widescreen 1080p HD marvels we see today in our own living rooms. With that in mind, this video from Disney History is a magnificent trip back in time, collecting only the best recorded film of the opening of Disneyland in 1955 with stunning visual acuity. There's nothing particularly interesting going on other than people enjoying the park much as they do today, but it's so crystal clear that you feel as if you're seeing the past through a high def looking glass.
When this thing hits 88 miles per hour you're gonna see some serious shit:
What struck me most initially is how everyone looks dressed for Sunday school. Now, we could pick apart contemporary patrons of theme parks who wear next to nothing, but I couldn't imagine wearing a sport coat and slacks to Disneyland in the summer, let alone a Sunday dress. There's a massive breakdown of the video that highlights the various details you may miss, especially if you aren't "of the era." It's a compelling and intricate read that compliments the video perfectly.
Fans of old Disney will be happy to see more of the old era recreated with upcoming pics TOMORROWLAND with George Clooney and SAVING MR. BANKS with Tom Hanks.
