Cool Videos: A look at the work behind recreating Tarkin for Rogue One

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Although not everyone was completely blown away with the work ILM did on Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) in ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, it was still quite an impressive achievement in my book. Through a mixture of motion-capture and CGI, Guy Henry was able to step into Tarkin's shoes (or slippers) and bring to life a character whose original actor had long since passed away. ILM's work on ROGUE ONE has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and they've released another VFX reel which all too briefly looks at what it took for the team to recreate Tarkin.

It hasn't yet been confirmed, but there are rumblings that ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY will be released on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD on April 4, 2017.
