Cool Videos: 10 things that superhero movies in 2012 did better than the ones in 2013

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

With days left in 2013 we can now look back on the superhero movies released and come to the conclusion that this year was lacking in comparison to 2012. Sure, we got the return of Superman and the first Phase Three movie in IRON MAN 3, but overall the movies just felt less immediate than last year. Even with THOR: THE DARK WORLD and THE WOLVERINE bringing some darkness to the movies it seems like everyone is looking towards CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST rather than reveling in what we got this year.

Why, you ask? Well, this video breaks down the 10 rules for making a successful superhero movie as illustrated by last year’s films like THE AVENGERS, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. While those three were not perfect, they certainly kept the bar high for what was to come. And nothing in 2013 quite met that bar. Take a look and see if you agree.

Bring on the superheroes of 2014!
