Based in the Arkham universe from the popular videogame franchise, BATMAN: ASSAULT ON ARKHAM has debuted its first trailer, which features the familiar animation style of the last few animated DCU films. Directed by THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS PARTS 1 & 2 director Jay Oliva, the new direct-to-video animated pic stars some of the familiar rogues from the game series, including Joker, Harley Quinn, Firefly, Bane, Penguin, Clayface, Killer Croc, and the Suicide Squad. The flick stars the voice talent of frequent Batman Kevin Conroy, Neal McDonough as Floyd Lawton/Deadshot, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, Tony Todd as Killer Croc, and many more.
Take a look:
There's no synopsis for the film, so I can't say how it will relate to the games in that respect, but based on the trailer it looks like a lot of the familiar tropes of the series. These movies are usually a lot of fun and, on occasion, can be outstanding (THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS comes to mind). One thing you can always count on is some solid, fun animated entertainment that usually serves as a serviceable adaptation of the source material.
The latest DCU movie, SON OF BATMAN, which is based on the comics, is set to hit shelves on May 6, 2014, while there is no set release date for this latest entry in the animated queue, although it's expected sometime in 2014. The next game in the Batman: Arkham series, Arkham Knight, is expected to hit consoles on October 15, 2014.
