Cool Horror Videos: The Babysitter full feature (Video)

Here at AITH, we try to support low-budget and no-budget filmmakers when we can. And sometimes that just means putting a film out there for the masses to check out. And that's what we wanted to do here today. Writer-director Greg Klepper's THE BABYSITTER has had a hard road getting to horror fans, but here it is for you guys today in all of its glory. Below you can check out the full 31-minute feature along with a rundown on the movie via Film Freeway, the synopsis, and a special Director's Statement. Here's the rundown on the film from Film Freeway:

The Babysitter is an atmospheric, Hitchcockian psycho-thriller in the tradition of Halloween, Diabolique and Scream, that is truly a showcase for up and coming talent like no other.  

Led by the talented Alesandra Assante, [Lily & Kat] daughter of legendary actor Armand Assante, and co-starring Monica Wyche, [Hulu’s The Path] Zenon Zeleniuch, [Madame Secretary] Eileen Weisenger, [Iron Man, The Faculty] and introducing the film debuts of the talented Tyler Merell and Erica Duke Forsyth, who deservedly took home the award for Best Actress at the Independent Horror Movie Awards for her role as Cara.

Beautifully shot on location at the stunning, isolated estate of world-renowned actor, Armand Assante, by cinematographer Rafe Karen. Masterfully edited by Andrea Cecchi, who snagged a Best Editing award for his work on the film from the Diabolic Film Fest, The Babysitter also marks the debut of now prolific film composer, Justin Burning, who crafted a haunting and unforgettable score.

Here's the official synopsis:

After a breakdown leaves Katie expelled from her dream school, she is left struggling to pick up the pieces… And when an opportunity to babysit for a wealthy family on the outskirts of town presents itself, Katie sees it as the perfect way to prove how much she's moved on from the unfortunate incident. However, things begin to unravel as the night progresses, leaving Katie once again struggling to keep it together as she tries to make sense of the terrors she encounters.

And here's the Director Statement:

I hope you will give the film a proper watch, as it is not at all what it appears to be on the surface. Don't be fooled by the generic title or slasher-esque poster design. A lot of the decisions I made on this film were done solely with the intention of subverting audience expectations. At its core, The Babysitter is a nuanced, multi-layered, mind-bender of a psychological horror film, and one that rewards multiple viewings; having personally spent months meticulously plotting every frame down to each last line of dialogue.

I wanted the viewer to pick up something new with each re-watch, to gradually put all of the pieces of the puzzle together. Its a film rife with subtle foreshadowing and symbolism; one where the ending is not spelled out, but the answers are there for any viewer who enjoys a challenge. But in spite of all that, I also worked hard to make the film an accessible and entertaining experience for all.

This was essentially a zero budget movie, filmed for just over $1000, which is nothing compared to the amount of money this broke New Yorker spent out of pocket on editing costs and festival fees. Money spent only to be told by most, that they enjoyed it, but I should cut its runtime in half and submit again next year. Let me make one thing clear… I did not make The Babysitter for festivals. I made it because it was a story I wanted to tell, and this happens to be a story that takes exactly 30 minutes to do so effectively.

I am not chasing laurels, nor do I care about awards. All I want is to bring The Babysitter to the people who want to see it. The film's audience is growing daily and most people who have seen it seem to really love it. This and this alone, was the inspiration to get back on the horse and really put up a fight to get this film out there. Will you join me?
