American Psycho: The Musical is currently running on Broadway, because the modern era is a carnival of absurd ideas. Adapting a horror movie into a musical isn't a wholly novel concept: Carrie: The Musical flopped huge way back when in 1988, and the hilarious Evil Dead: The Musical has been running in Las Vegas for years after an Off-Broadway debut.
However, AMERICAN PSYCHO doesn't seem like the obvious choice for musical treatment. Once you see this video of lead actor Benjamin Walker (ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER) performing the song "Selling Out" with the cast on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this month, it becomes pretty clear why. Walker has the looks to pull off the character and his voice is pleasant, but everything else… Well, see for yourself.
If you're into pop music repetition and The Robot, you can pick up tickets RIGHT HERE. The musical's book is by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN) with lyrics by "Barely Breathing" crooner Duncan Sheik.
