Cool Horror Videos: Insanely awesome animatronic bear suit for Open Road’s Endangered

SFX Studio has released an amazing behind-the-scenes video of their animatronic bear in action which will be used to terrorize the characters in ENDANGERED. This is why I will always prefer animatronics over CGI, it’s simply too f*cking cool! I was actually curious as to how they were going to pull this off because obviously filming with a real grizzly bear isn’t an easy task so CGI would seem like the smartest choice. Well we can all rest assure because the bear is pure animatronics gold.

Right off the bat you’ll probably notice that the head seems to be pretty large compared to that of a normal bear, I would assume this is because of all the mechanics and machinery that had to be put into the head in order to make it move so life-like. Have no worries though because I have no doubt in my mind that this thing is going to look sick as hell in the film.

This is a quick video test for an animatronic bear suit that the SFX Studio Inc. team built in 5 weeks,” they explain. “The head is animatronic with all the facial expression required to make this bear VERY realistic. André is the performer inside of the suit which top off at 8’4″.

SAW V director David Hackl’s ENDANGERED — previously running under the RED MACHINE title — will release later this year and stars James Mardsen, Thomas Jane, Scott Glenn, Piper Perabo and Billy Bob Thorton.

You can watch a few more videos of this guy in action on their Youtube channel so head over there if you want to see more!
